West Adams

So much has happened since my last post.

I changed jobs. I’m working for another nonprofit affordable hosing developer. My team (all men) are respectful and have vocalized that I’m a good addition to the team, especially when I bring up questions or concerns that they thought of but felt it wasn’t right for them to question. This is definitely a quality I learned while at my last job, being able to question and make ourselves accountable, if not “us”, then who?

My team includes 3 other project managers and one development accountant. We have three supervisors who have all been in the field for years. Our leadership staff have held my same position in their lifetimes. It’s comforting to know that they know what I spend my day doing and that I’m not alone. All three of them have also made it clear that they acknowledge we all have a life outside of work and that family is first.

Work-life balance is good, so far.

I’m currently managing 6 projects, 2 in construction, 2 in predevelopment and 2 others where I am not a lead but assist when needed. So far its manageable.

One of my projects is in my own neighborhood of West Adams, a 63 unit development for veterans and seniors.

This week I had the opportunity to visit for the first time. This project is 5 months behind schedule and I have been tasked to get it back on track. 👀 not impossible, in my years in this field I’ve seen miracles happen and allowed “impossible” extensions a reality. It’s all about communication, communication, communication. Our lenders, contractors and partners need to be updated and make sure that the project keeps moving.

Under these blue skies lies the future home of 63 vets and seniors:

If all works out as I plan it, next Christmas will be spent moving in residents in to their new homes and resuming their lives in a new place.

Very much the way I will be spending these holidays with my family (the starting new).

This is it for now. I will be posting again soon, now that I’m getting back into a new rhythm.
